Pastor Gordon S. Houston, Sr.
Pastor Gordon S. Houston, Sr. is the natural son of Deacon Gordon Houston and Sister Gladys Patterson Houston, both now in heaven. Some will remember Pastor Houston stating in public and in writing that he was born of the spirit of God on Saturday, August 9, 1953 and baptized in water on August 10, 1953 in a pool in the back of Prairie Mount United Methodist Church the next day, which was Sunday. After diligently searching the records we found the data to be as follows: He became the spiritual son of God when he was born of the spirit of God in August 1952 at the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Troy, Mississippi, during the pastorate of the Reverend L. O. Caldwell, and was baptized in water on Sunday, August 24, 1952 at the age of nine (9). He is the husband of Minister Mary E. Houston and the father of four children: Gordon Stanley Houston, Jr., Kimberly E. Houston, Alexander G. Houston, and Jennifer L. M. Houston, all of whom are saved. He is also the grandfather of two grandsons, Gordon Stanley Houston, III and Grant Andrew Houston the Father-in-law of Ily J. Houston, the wife of his son Gordon Stanley Houston, Jr., and of Erika N. Houston, the wife of his son, Alexander Graham Houston. Pastor Houston was educated at Lane College, Jackson, Tennessee and Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, Massachusetts. In December 1968, he was called to preach the Gospel. In June 1969 the Lord, Jesus Christ, set him in the office of pastor (Ephesians 4:11), and in 1969 gave him Beech Spring Baptist Church, Jacks Creek, Tennessee to pastor. Other churches that the Lord gave him to pastor were Morning Star Baptist Church, Roxbury, Massachusetts and Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Moreover, in August 1981, the Lord, Jesus Christ, set Pastor Houston in the office of teacher (Ephesians 4:11) and later he was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in other tongues (languages) he had never formally learned as the Spirit gave the utterance (Acts 2:1f). In the year of 2001 God anointed Pastor Houston with the healing anointing to be administered through the laying on of hands. And on Sunday, February 4, 2001 a member was healed from liver cancer by the healing anointing through the laying on of hands, which is one of the six foundational principles of the doctrine of Christ (KJV) or one of the six foundational elementary teachings about the Christ (NASB) in Hebrews 6:1f.
At the direction of his Lord and Savior, Pastor Houston resigned from the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in the year 1978. With guidance from the Holy Spirit and encouragement from devout and Godly believers, on July 25, 1978 with the help of a few other saints, he organized and established The Christian Church in Philadelphia for the expressed purposes of worshipping God, doing the work of Jesus, and carrying forward and adhering to the teachings of the New testament, specifically, and the Holy Bible in general. Since that date and time, many have been saved, some healed, and many helped not to lose their sanity. Presently, The Christian Church in Philadelphia has a membership of about four hundred (400) and a church house replacement value of approximately two million dollars ($2,000,000.00). Thousands have been born of the spirit of God from hearing Pastor Houston preach and teach the Word of God since he began preaching in December 1968. Lastly, when he has the opportunity he preaches and teaches the Word of God with an anointing from God so that whoever hears and believes may be saved, blessed, refreshed and healed.
